Brought to you by the letter X

Have you ever looked at this page which lists all the diskant record reviews alphabetically? I have just updated it and we finally had something to list in the Y section. Now all that eludes us are records by bands beginning with the letter X. It seems a little surprising that in 2 and a half years of review blogging, we’ve never had a band beginning with X. Are they all rubbish or do they not exist at all? X is also the only letter I don’t have anything listed in my iTunes library for.

So, bands beginning with X. Some recommendations please.

Marceline Smith

Marceline is the fierce, terrifying force behind diskant.net, laughing with disdain as she fires sharpened blades of sarcasm in all directions. Based in Scotland, her lexicon consists of words such as 'jings', 'aboot' and 'aye': our trained voice analysts are yet to decipher some of the relentless stream of genius uttered on a twenty-four hour basis. Marceline's hobbies include working too much and going out in bad weather.

    Xavier Cugat (50s/60s lounge/exotica, probably not appropriate for diskant)
    XBXRX (awesome lo-fi electro-punk splattercore)
    Xenis Emputae Travelling Band (hippy folk nonsense)
    Xinlisupreme (Chinese shoegaze)
    Xiu Xiu (histrionic oddball American indie-queer)
    XTC (popular post-punk)

    I’ll attempt to write something about XBXRX some time soon to plug this embarrassing hole in our review archive.

    Oh yeah, and Mrs. P has stuff by XX Teens (formerly Xerox Teens before Xerox gave them a row). They’re one of those excruciatingly self-conscious Artrocker ‘art-punk’ bands that you have to have idiotic hair to listen to.

    Oh XBXRX! I do have stuff by them (thanks Ollie!) but it isn’t on my computer. I may rectify this as they are great.
