Review Submissions

Since the diskant review box has now bigger than some small countries, we have made big changes to how we accept stuff for review. If you want your record reviewed, please read carefully and follow this step by step guide. If you do anything else, I will likely throw your CD in the bin. Sorry if we come across as control freaks but we’re really getting overwhelmed with things that are not suitable for diskant, which wastes everyone’s time. This article on promoting your product should be required reading for everyone.

1. Have a read of the reviewers details below. Each reviewer has stated what they like, what they don’t like and any formats they can’t review. There is a link to their previous reviews and posts on diskant so you can have a look and find the most suitable person to review your CD.

2. Pick the most likely person and email them using the address supplied. Please just email one person at a time. If you email everyone we will all ignore you. Mention diskant at some point in your email and ask for their postal address.

3. If the reviewer likes the idea of reviewing your record they will email you back with their address. Send off your CD to them. If they don’t reply or aren’t keen, try emailing a second person. If no-one wants your CD then please don’t push it. There are other websites you know.

4. Await your review. The reviewer might email you when it goes live or they might not. We’re busy people. You can subscribe to the RSS feed of the blog in Google Reader (or any RSS reader) which will alert you to new posts as they happen. If your CD has not been reviewed within a few weeks you can email the reviewer to remind them. Please do not harass them though - maybe they just didn’t like it much.

Please note: all current reviewers are based in the UK.

Books, zines and other such stuff is also welcome. Email Marceline at the address below for advice on where to send.

The reviewers

PASCAL ANSELL (pascalansell AT hotmail DOT com)
Jazz, electronica, folk, improv, post-rock, DUOS! Anything original, experimental and exciting. No rehashed indie.

STUART FOWKES (stuart AT diskant DOT net)
Electronica, hip hop, experimental, noise and anything combining bleeps and guitars. Also anything really, heart-rendingly miserable.

JGRAM (jgram AT aol DOT com)
I enjoy most genres of music and will happily listen to almost anything for review with enthusiasm. I will NOT review MP3s as it is not a proper format in my opinion.

SIMON MINTER (simonminter AT fouriertransform DOT com)
I’ll review anything that doesn’t make me feel like tearing press releases up before driving them into my ears with a hammer drill.

MARCELINE SMITH (diskant-overlord AT diskant DOT net)
I like bands that can’t play, singers that can’t sing, people from Scotland, boy/girl duos, electropop and handmade packaging. No ska, “funky” stuff or over-serious indie.

DAVE STOCKWELL (dstockwell AT diskant DOT net)
I love music that pushes boundaries, experiments or just does something that renders it unplayable on radio.

MANDY WILLIAMS (mandywilliams AT diskant DOT net)
Indie, alt country, lo-fi, folksy, post punk. No vinyl or mp3s please.
