goemon A bizarre typically Japanese amalgamation of Mario 64 and Zelda, 'Goemon' is very weird but totally wonderful. As soon as the opening cut scene runs showing Goemon and a practically naked Ebisumaru running from a shop where Ebisumaru took off his clothes to try and get a discount, it's obvious this is something pretty special. impact

There are four characters to play which you can switch between but only Goemon and the amusingly plump Ebisumaru are available at the start. Ebisumaru is the cutest of the two with adorable jumping noises and a brilliant skipping action when walking. Goemon is a bit more serious but still very cute. Both do very funny little actions when finding a fortune doll which are one of the many items to find during the game which also includes ryo, the currency which can be used to buy things and also as a weapon. ebisumaru

yaeSome of the items can only be used by Goemon and he also finishes a level with a fight with a huge boss so has to use rollerskating robot Impact to defeat him. All the characters have unique magic powers which are helpful in different situations: Goemon has increased power, Ebisumaru can become very small, Sasuke can fly and Yae turns into a mermaid to swim underwater. Energy can be regained by eating dumplings which can be found or bought in shops. Rice balls which replace strength when it reaches zero and armour for protection can also be bought.

Unfortunately the game can only be saved with a memory pak and at certain points at the game, which can be a little irritating. But apart from that I absolutely love this game! It's so funny and has that brilliant surreal Japanese madness. It is great fun to play with such cute characters and bizarre enemies that keep you in hysterics the whole time! sasuke
